JANUARY 15, 2016 – Makar Sankranti marks the end of the winter months and the beginning of the harvest season in India. The Hindu Dharma featival of Makara Sankranti was celebrated on Friday, January 15th. Makara Sankranti is celebrated to let go of our differences with each other and increase love (prema bhava) in us. This was a day conducive to meditation and prayer due to expanded Chaitanya (energy of spirit).
A synchronous event on 6 Sun/AHAU (Friday, January 15, 2016), as the timing of this festival is based on the solar cycle and celebrates the return of the Sun.
