MAYAN CALENDAR DAYKEEPER’S JOURNAL
The Peak Tones of every trecena (Tones 6, 7, 8, and 9) are days when we are establishing a new belief. Tones 6-8 have potential to bring new experiences, and at Tone 9, a new understanding begins to come to completion. As a Day Sign of transformation, the next higher step of our Spiritual Evolution is made possible as a new Truth can become our own.
As we begin to see the direction for our Sacred Intention, we are encouraged to have patience and look more deeply at a new awareness that has been brought to our attention. This is a call to look at the bigger picture.
As a Day Sign that represents the direction of the West, Monkey offers the energy to transform something of our daily walk on the hard road of life. Under the influence of Monkey/CHUEN we can feel a sensation of energy the power to effect our own reality. For that reason Chuen is associated as a day of High Magic. Traditional celebrations, inaugurations and weddings are observed on Monkey/CHUEN to initiate new beginnings and chosen Sacred Paths. 9 Monkey/CHUEN is the Day Sign of the Maya Priestess.
Known as the Weaver of Time and the Master of all Arts, Monkey knows both Art and Play are direct expressions of Spirit. When we are lost in either play or art, we engage in a limitless expanse of time and possibility. We lose ourselves in these moments and become One with the movement of Spirit. The Magic we can Play is to imagine where a Dream might carry us further down the road.
The Monkey can awaken us to Live the Joy of Life through a balance of intellect and intuition, transforming our unconscious thoughts into self-directed thoughts of intention. Traveling through the trecena of Dreams, Monkey can illuminate things both seen and unseen. By bringing them into balance, we are given the power to transform our Dreams into Reality.
Monkey frees us to go out to play. Through play, we are open to our Highest Inspiration, released from our set of pre-existing limits or standards. We Play as if anything is possible. We have the whole universe and the gift of the natural world to explore through our Imagination.
Monkey is a day to imagine the Realness of our own Power. On one such Monkey day I went in search of a personal Spirit Staff, something I could hold that represented the presence of Spiritual Guidance and Support. And, on Monkey days, I might “sprinkle a little magic dust” on challenges that come to mind. Monkey encourages the fun of believing anything is possible. Though the Monkey is not one to finish things, it is known for inspiring new ideas.
To all my relations, may we be led far away from the thoughts of the mundane to a magical place of our own invention, where we are free to play and dream outside the bounds of our physical reality. May our Dreams and Intentions be reborn by new Inspiration drawn from experiencing the simple Joys of Being where we are One with all that is, and could be.

THE TRECENA OF NIGHT/AKBAL
9 Monkey/CHUEN (Cherokee, 9 Raccoon/KVH’LI)
Galactic Tone 9: Patience. The energy of Nine is one of getting a better perspective of the bigger picture. With the energy of Nine, plans or patterns begin to come to completion. Nine requires patience and perseverance that is found in the bigger picture, otherwise there is great suffering from the lack of insight. A completion of cycles of action is all-important to Nine.
Monkey/CHUEN: Monkey is known to the Maya as the Weaver or Weaver of Time. Monkey takes ideas as threads of vines and weaves them into the fabric of our reality. New patterns or inventions are also woven into our lives by Monkey. Amiable, intelligent, generous and a jack of all trades, Monkey’s innocent curiosity leads to artistic expression and constructive solutions. Many Monkeys become highly respected merchants or speakers. They love performing practical jokes and crave attention, so much so that they may over-act or play the fool to get the spotlight. Monkeys have a short attention span and find it difficult to stay with anything long enough to master it.
Cherokee, Raccoon/KVH’LI: Star Symbol: Algol, a star in Perseus. Restless energy yearning for long-lost love. Algol was named DEMON STAR or MISCHIEVOUS ONE by the Ancients because it winks and fades at times. Raccoon is full of friendly mischief, eager to swap kisses for candy. Magnetic leaders, full of humor and gaiety. Favorite food is corn, the mainstay of the Cherokee. Very artistic while being the “masked bandit” who steals your heart.
NEW DAY KEEPERS: My sacred intention for the new Tzolk’in round is to offer more personal support to those who may want to learn more about ways to draw personal meaning from the calendar. I will be offering an Introductory Guided Course for Day Keepers in the near future. Contact me if this is something you would be interested in! Also, if you’d just like help identifying your Day Sign, I’m more than happy to help. Blessings, in lak’ech Debra (email@example.com)
