5 Earth / CABAN – Building an Altar: Day 5 of 13

MAYAN CALENDAR DAYKEEPER’S JOURNAL

Greetings Kin,

Through the first 6 days of the trecena we are completing an effort of Spiritual Growth. As a trecena of “Light” the Reed/BEN trecena is an in-pouring of inspiration to establish Peace and Harmony in the Home. 2 Jaguar/IX taught us to make choices using our Spiritual Discernment and to share with others the things we are Most Grateful for. Reed raises our Conscious to the things that matter most.

5 is the Tone of Empowerment. We are given a Source of Power to complete a Spiritual Climb. Earth/CABAN is illustrated as Mother Earth, the place where Humanity would make a Journey to our Life’s Destiny. Mother Earth is the source of all our Human Blessings, and the Whole of Consciousness as seen by the Creator. Among her greatest gifts is the new Dawn she carries us to each day.

CABAN is a symbol of Movement. The Cherokee Day Sign the Heron is a bird that lives a life of perpetual migration. The Heron is also compared to the Phoenix who rises again from the ashes of its past. Heron represents our Oneness in the perpetual process of rebirth and regeneration.

The Aztec Ollin simply means Movement, symbolizing the motion of life and the movement of matter through time. Ollin is the symbol in the center of the familiar Aztec calendar that marks 20 movements of purpose. The Aztecs define days led by ollin-movementOllin as auspicious for the “active principle” and unlucky for the “passive principle.” Our well-being and happiness depend on our forever pressing on. The common observance in all these traditions was the Sacredness of Time, and the belief that for every Time there is a Divine Purpose.

CABAN inspires us through the Beauty of Mother Earth. Mother Earth is the body in motion that carries us through time. We only have to look to the heavens to see the proof that we are moving together. We are One in movement that offers a Divine Purpose every day.

This is a day when we receive the energy that will generate the momentum to fuel our upward climb. Earth/CABAN empowers us to move our Dream forward from one day to the next. We are offered an inspiration that calls us forward from within.

Each day is worthy of a Celebration. This place in time will never come again. We are never presented with the same set of opportunities and circumstances. Earth/CABAN calls us to seize THIS day. The Heron reminds us that each day is an opportunity to rise from our own ashes and shine again. Who we were yesterday is gone and the only thing before us is the Dream of what we can become.

Earth/CABAN reminds us how our circumstances can look different from one day to the next. In the light of a new day, what may have weighed heavy on our mind yesterday can be lifted to a new understanding. Movement offers the promise of a new tomorrow. Our Dream holds new possibilities each day.

To all my relations, may we give thanks for the gift of each new day. Like a morning chorus, may we begin each day at the altar within with our prayers for Divine Guidance, asking the Creator and our Sacred Grandfathers and Grandmothers, “What would you have me know today?” May we shine the Light of New Hope each morning that every Moment of this Day is a Sacred Time that can reveal its own Divine Purpose. May we renew our Intention to be Present and Offer each day into the Hands of the Creator. May we Offer ourselves in expectation of the Blessings we will discover, and the Blessing we can Be. “Here I Am, Lord. Send Me.”

GOD SIGHTINGS: A practice that was introduced to me when my nest was still full, was to keep a daily journal of “God Sightings.” At the end of each day we would share our experiences at dinner time. We were all on the look-out for experiences of Divine Synchronicity and Blessings. I still remember the joy of children coming home from school to report, “Mom, I had a God Sighting today!” Sometimes, it was as simple as a better test score than expected. At others, it was the acknowledgement of someone placed in our life that needed something we were Blessed to Give, or someone who was a Blessing to us. The more we did this, the longer the daily lists became. We lifted each other up, and it brought realization of the Truth that in the ways of Spirit, we always find what we are looking for.

in lak’ech, i am another you

5 Earth/CABAN (Cherokee, Heron/GUWI’SGUWI)

Galactic Tone 5: Empowerment. At the center of the cube we find Five. Five is an intelligent, organizing force which manages communications and materials, knowledge and application. Fives are natural net workers who gather what is needed. These persons can probe directly to the core of any situation making them excellent investigators.

Earth/Caban: Earth/Caban: Keeper of the garden of Earth. Profound synchronistic connections to Earth’s natural cycles and energies provide power of creations and memories of ancient wisdom. Earth persons help dispel bad intentions, habits and ideas. This makes them very good counselors and masters of all arts. Studious and intelligent, Earth persons endeavor to bring a flow of natural order to all aspects of life. Being connected to the dynamic forces of nature, Earth persons need much liberty to facilitate their expression of migration or the sending of long distance communications such as the whales, elephants, birds and many other creatures. Sometimes Earth’s delicate sensitivities are upset resulting in quakes of emotion even the display of volcanic temper.

Cherokee, Heron/GUWI’SGUWI: Sign of movement, of perpetual motion, recycling, regeneration; environmentalists fighting for the underdog. Heron is mentally alert, rational, yet opinionated; has a great faith in people and in the divine plan, holding the magic of ministry, medicine, marketing and matchmaking; healing abilities, especially with crystals; negotiation and mediation energy. Heron is symbolized by Deneb, located in the Northern Cross beside the Milky Way. “The Northern Cross is the Tree of Life, Beside the Milky Way River & Perched atop is Guwi’ sguwi, the Cherokee Heron Spirit Bird, comparable to the Egyptian Phoenix. One Myth has it that a Beautiful Young Maiden (the Heron Spirit Bird) fell from the Tree of Life in the Sky Vault, & Found no Place to Land on the Primordial Sea. Turtle came to the Surface of the Water & gave her a Place to Land. She nested & Laid her Cosmic Egg, From which came all Life on Earth.” (Cherokee Astrology: Animal, Medicine in the Stars, Raven Hall)

[Text in italics was the primary source of inspiration for my journal. These are the sources that started my journey and they are the reference for interpretation each day. By providing the original text, I hope to offer a way to see what inspired my thoughts and by including all the aspects – allow for something more to inspire you. Mayan descriptions are those written by Ian Lungold. Cherokee descriptions came from multiple sources.
